Anas acuta pintail
June 9 Saw many on trip to central marsh (150?).
Droopy flight characteristics. Birds are
traveling in flocks. Don't appear paired yet.
June 14 Single pintail flew over beach ridge at 1850
quacking continuously. There was some fog
and the bird appeared to be trying to
contact other pintails.
June 17 Located a pintail nest - 1 yard from trapline III A
station 3.6, 5 eggs in nest. I noticed the hen
walking away from the nest as I was putting
out the snap traps (with Holman) from 1530-1715.
June 18 1845 - 6 eggs in nest tonight.
June 19 0910. The eggs were missing from the nest. Some
nest material was scattered up to 2 feet from
the nest. There was no sign of the eggs.
July 13 Pitt Point, Alaska - some pintails present here.
