Sullivan,J. 1962 Barrow, Alaska Live Traps 11 June 1500-1730 Hines and I set out traps at the plot where Beach Ridge joins the gas line. 6 rows of 4 traps each (20 traps) were set out. This was the amount permitted by snow conditions - many stakes remain under the snow. 4 extra traps were set on high polygon measurement. The 20 traps were set within 6 feet of each stake in runways along likely looking place. Grass was put in the traps for warmth, Lab Chow was also put into the traps. Weather: clear with some clouds, cool ±37°. Tundra: wet ice and snow melting. A dead lemming was seen on the side of a high polygon, owl feather - also on the polygon. (Possibly an animal for display purposes - for the owl). 2200-2220 checked live traps - nothing. Saw a lemming run under a drum by the gasoline line and I loosened the drum from the snow, flipped it over and captured the lemming. 12 June 0830 - nothing 1645 - 1 ad or Lemming 1010.
