Numbering method: 0.0 1.0 2.0 3.0 4.0 5.0 6.0 7.0 8.0 9.0 10.0 0.0 0.2 0.4 0.6 0.8 1.0 1.2 1.4 etc. A total of 50 stakes, numbered as above; 3 snap traps were set at each stake. Bait used: a mixture of peanut butter, bacon fat, and clove oil smeared on the trip. Mullen believes one baiting should last the season. 4 jaegers seen in central marsh (while searching for trap line locations). Chamberlain spotted a longspur nest with 6 eggs. Returned about 9:20 P.M. June 13 Checked trap lines at 8 A.M. Slight difficulty locating them alone. Valmer passed in wheel on the way to his study area, and pointed out one set of lines. (1x + X). Capture: 1 Baird's sandpiper. 2 as longspur. 1 Lemmus. After noon meal set out live traps - 5 rows of traps, 25 ft apart. The plywood box type trap with a museum special trap to close the entrance was used.
