Journal J. Sullivan Barrow, Alaska June 11, 1961 Morning. worked on field notes. Read paper concerning Barrow area. after noon meal walked out along gas line to Trapping areas. Snow Bunting flew close (1pr). Mostly saw Baidi's. - display. A group of 5 Pomarine pegers or water south of central marsh area. Found a dead jager west of fridge bordering central marsh. Looked at snap trap lines. 6 snap traps were still out along 1 line - 1 still set. Returned to lab at 4:20 P.M. Mullen came in reported seeing a "teal-like" duck near slough south of drum area. Holner with 16 gauge and I went out w/ Mullen + Chamberlain for a look. 2 groups of pintails were seen. I spotted a brown limning running through sedges - then swimming in shallow water. Grabbed the animal and gave it to Mullen. It was a pregnant & Semipalmated sandpiper were present in this area. Also a pair of old squaws in slough. The "teal" was not seen. June 12 Barrow. Assembled, cocated + baited 6 packs of 153 museum special snap traps, for use starting this evening (Chamberlain helped). After noon meal mounted red phalarope + a golden plover(collected
