51 Journal Sullivan, Barrow, Alaska 1962 9 August (cont). Viner and I saw a white-winged scoter off-shore along the gravel road back to camp from Vath Area. 10 August Barrow, Alaska. Checked III A, B; IV A, B - 2 Removers, in spite of wet. This afternoon Piper and I set up explorers at the Fertilizer Plot. The ground was wet preventing difficulties. Eventually we had to dig a narrow trench a couple of inches deep in order to get our wire screen placed in the ground. z.2 m Narrow (1") trench - 2" deep. We set up 4 explorers: 1 in Dypontia inside the fertilized area; 1 nearby - outside. The other set: 1 in mixed fertilized - 1 near- by - outside fertilized area. Took point samples in Vath Area today, also. Viner and Steven set lines II, III, III and VIII while Piper and I were at the Fertilizer plot. While returning from the plot, saw a LTS attack aphidog (in the air) in Central Beach - swooped and
