43 Journal Sullivan, J. 1962 Barrow, Alaska 26 July (out) over the Tundra; difficulties have been reduced to: (1) Difficult to turn, (2) Overheat, (3) Burn oil, (4) Fills rear part of vessel with smoke where passengers sit, (5) windshield still badly cracked, one steers through part of a wire screen mesh. At Fertilizer plot, Schultz and I talked about point sampling here. Ought to have: 2 exclosures in the fertilized area - 1 outside. One in the plot area - in mipped vegetation, one in Dryopteris. This afternoon graphed heights of vegetation from point samples. 27 July Barrow, Alaska Rain + fog today. Checked lines this morning, and worked on pt. sample data. Schultz and I will meet today or tomorrow to discuss the data. Stevens and I - to Fertilizer plot this evening to pull in lines XIII and XIV, while Hiner checks XI and XII. To Wien plane today (fog). 28 July Barrow, Alaska Checked XI + XII this morning. Sat together with Schultz on the pt sampling data. I had graphed the highest point of the vegetation at which a pin had hit (inside and outside the exclosures). Schultz recommended graphing: (1) green hits, (2) dead hits, and (3) making a table of green hits according to species.
