Sullivan, J.
1962 Barrow, Alaska
24 July (cont.) Hines + Steven .
25 July Hines to lines XIII + XIV this morning while
I took point samples.
Set out lines XI + XII this afternoon (with
Hines). These will finish the 2nd running
of the Barrow lines. XI + XII also look quite
wet - shore birch present (RB's, semipale)
but little lemming sign. Runways look
like last winter.
26 July Barrow, Alaska
Pipers to lead an armada (2 weasels)
Schultz, Ashley (Boknack's aid.), Boyd's aid,
The Boych, J. Kelley .... Carranda, + various
others. 3 AM, however, was too early for
all but Schultz, Piper, Ashley, and me.
A. + 2 in 331 (the worst weasel on the line!)
to lines XI + XII first - then across
to the Fertilis plot. While I checked the
liner, Ashley gathered big samples; he
took a soil core about 3" in diam down
about 2". Boknack is studying collembola+
mites (distribution + number ??). The day
was cold (38°), sort of clear - gray clouds
overhead - but holes in them here + there.
Saw 4 Lemmurs at 11 + 12, one at the "Fert."
plot (in the dark green fertilized area though).
331 weasel has improved since I last coated it
