Cape Simpson → Barrow, Alaska
13 July (ant) 0000 - 5 minutes out of C. Simpson. Heavy cloud cover obscured tundra and ocean below. At one point we were sandwiched between 2 thick cloud layers and the midnight sun was visible in the open space. Arrived at Barrow at 0025.
Kiner, Steven, and I put out lines I, II, IX and X this afternoon. A number of long-tailed jaegers around -
14 July Barrow, Alaska
with Kiner to trap lines - dropped him off at IX + X - I went on to I + II. We picked up 4 lemmings. Kiner and Zullen are in the final stages of preparation for the trip to the Seward. The float plane is back (or here - it's a new plane), and will soon be ready to go. Word now is that they leave 1st thing in the morning.
Kiner, Steven and I checked traps this evening. 1 lemming + a few longspurs were taken. Processed this morning's take.
15 July Barrow, Alaska
Checked lines this morning. 1 Lemming taken at 4.0 line II (the 3rd animal in 2 days at this particular site). 4.0 is a sort of bump - about 2-2½ ft high on Sacrine Ridge - it is faced with birchwood. There is
