Journal Sallavin, J. 1962 Cape Simpson, Alaska 3 July (cont) apparently annoyed by morpitor (which were pleatful). The animal grazed for a minute or 2, then would run 10-15 yards shaking its head as it ran. The line of move- ment brought the caribou within 40 yards of me (eventually to the west of line IV - which was downwind from me). My seat brought the bull up short, he turned and ran back to the herd. The herd of ±200 animals then started running straight south-away from me. After about a ½ mile run the herd turned east- a lake barred further southward run. They soon were running north - and passed about 150 yards east of me. All the animals kept up. I could hear sounds of breathing and large hooves cloking through moist grass and soil. The herd ran through a part of line III - but only 3 traps were set off - more damaged. Looked around for limmings but found none. There are some fresh runwayage near line IV. Began to cloud over this afternoon. Checked lines after copper- Temperature has dropped to 30's. Cold rain is falling. Captured a couple scare
