30 Journal Sullivan 1762 Barrow, Alaska 4 July (odd) pintail. On the way back to camp saw 9 or 10 Stellar eider by road bicycle (arrow road from Fresh Lake). 9 Drake and one hen - They flew in a circle - landed in the lake. Hines, Holman and I picked through the soil samples for insects this afternoon. Holman is going out with the weasel this evening and will set traps. 5 July Barrow, Alaska With Mullen and Steven this morning to look for lemmings for blood samples. Went to drum area - then out past six- circe site toward Beach Ridge. One snowy owl seen at far end of drum area - near Family (Salt no 2.) Lagoon. 1 Lemming taken. Weasel broke a track while back in drum area. Walked in- about 1/2 mile. Pulling in line XIII + XIV this evening. 6 July Barrow, Alaska Picked soil samples this morning - with Hines this afternoon to Pitelka's cancer plot. Steven came after us in a weasel commencing an immediate flight to Cape Simpson. It turned out that 3 people were lost onto ice and the pilot was needed to help search for them. The people were found.
