3 July Still overcast this morning. Called ARL concerning flight back. Fiebush will leave soon (0810) - return with him.
0945 - left in 01E with Fiebush for Barrow. We flew in the rain above a dense cloud cover most of the way. Arrived Barrow at 1045. Worked an hour, checking traps, etc. Ski afternoon. Pre-4th of July Happy Hour at 4PM. Jaki's martinis still pure gin.

Overcast with some sunshine this morning. With Minie to lines III and XIV, which were set out on the 2nd. Saw 2 flocks of golden plover (16 and 22 birds) in central marsh. Also 10 long-tailed jaegers flying over Beach Ridge. ±20 long tail in central marsh - feeding on adult crane flies which have emerged. (Minie collected one a few days ago; its stomach was full of crane flies). Wohlichlag Slough has gone down - it is 6 or 8 inches below the top of the track. No capturer in the lines. We went on to Wepik Slough for a look at bird life present. Ruddy turnstone, a few golden plover, and red-backed sandpiper seen near Wepik. 2 loons in the slough (they flew - looked like arctic). Also a couple of old sparrows and [illegible]
