1962 Pitt Point, Alaska
1 July (cont) moving in and out. Visibility very poor —
100 yards out — the mochule fades away.
Started to pick up traps at 1700. Rain
and fog were of no help... Fortunately were
on Sunday schedule at the station — so
evening meal does not interfere with
getting the traps. Finished by 2100.
Visibility from line IV was quite poor.
Couldn't see line III — but from III it
was possible to see a small lake from
which an old dirt road leads back to
the site.
2 July Pitt Point, Alaska
Still poor weather at Pitt Point. Worked
on notes and awaited return flight to
Barrow (weather permitting). 2 Ptaitails
meeting within sight of the station —
one on the north side, one on the
south. There was a large herd of
caribou (approaching 1000?) near the
station yesterday. Fritzy, an old eskimo
dog, gave fruitless chase to them. Was
easily outdistanced.
Bad weather continues: fog moves in
and out — plus rain. Flying conditions
poor — no plane for return to Barrow.
