Journal Wainwright, Alaska. in end hut (of three). Trap line found without much difficulty. Condition of stakes: all present, some loose, large stake unpainted but thicker than small stake. Predators in area: 4 snowy owls, 4 pomarine jaegers, 1 parasitic, a long-tailed. Traps set out by 2200. 22 june Wainwright, Alaska 0745-1015 checked traps - weather: clear, cool, sunny, windy. Took nine Lemmings (about ½ Dicrostonyx). Golden plovers, red-backed sandpipers, longspurs, snow buntings, semipalmated s., red phalaropes common in the area. 6 snowy owls seen in the area. Lemming sign is good; lots of runway and fresh holes. Lines 3+4 (4 in particular) are in polygonized, tussocky tundra. This area is laced with runway. This afternoon saw a pair of red-throated loons in a tundra pond. One stretched out its neck and lay very low in the water (among some Arctophyla) on seeing me approach. Both birds kept an eye on me - though I crouched and remained still. After awhile they came into the open, swam about near each other for a few minutes, then,
