1962 Barrow, Alaska
16 June (cont) near III-A - 1.6. (all 4 eggs). I got off slowly
and with much wing flutter. Niner marked
the nest with a trap stuck 4 ft to the west -
too much water to the east. A young dog (from
micile tracking base) was in the area. Very finicky-
chased leise, ran about. May be troublesome on
the trap line.
17 June 56° at 0800 this Sunday morning. A very clear
sunny day. Ad & Lemmer in live trap.
The 4th lemming taken in the live trap area.
Niner photographed the longspur nest this
morning....To snap traps across outlet of
family Lagoon. Water was not quite so
high today. A Lemmer taken in snap traps.
Also saw a short-eared owl in vicinity of line (3A+B)
Afternoon - warm + rainy. Niner, Steven and
I collected in Voth Area. Golden plover, red-backed
sandpiper, semipalmated s., red phalarope,
longspur were taken. Saw one pictural displaying
and others were heard in vicinity. Also
a pair of ruddy turnstones in area - turn-
stones are difficult to approach. Niner went
toward lines IIIA+B while I hunted high polygon
near Salt Lagoon no. 1. Steven moved the
weasel - to which we brought our kill. Returned
to camp about 1740.
