Journal Sullivan J. 1962 Barrow, Alaska. 14 june (not) ran right back to meet while Heine and I watched from 30ft away. Also saw a limming near gas line - ran under a barrel then was chased into high polygon area. Kid in tunnels there. Worked on sod sampler - Palmer's insect availability studies. Worked on sod sampler till 1500. Mullen, Stevens, and I checked trap lines IX and X for caracars (from last year). Found one caracar, many paper bag remnants, very few scats. Parts of the lines were under a couple of inches of water. Checked live traps at 1630. Drove over to Beach Ridge to pick up Pitelka at his census plot. Pitelka had been dropped there by Palmer at 1330 or so. We were a little late for 1630 rendezvous but Mullen did his best to get us there on time. P. was strolling back about 1 mi from his plot when we picked him up. Mullen, Stevens, and I set out snap traps III-A III-B this evening (1855-2035). A beautiful night - clear + cool - the sea ice looking white + blue over the ocean. The outlet of Family (Salt no. 2) Kayoon in high on the weasel - up to the boarding step above the tracks. Spotted a r-b-sandpiper nest
