14 June Barrow, Alaska
-with Holmes to Shrewail today. Weather cloudy
(overcast), fairly stiff breeze. Tundra condition
extremely bad for wheel travel. Melting ice
and snow very easily broken through. Must
particularly watch out for sloughs -
Shot 2 & longspurs on way to the lake.
Holmes collected a few r-b sandpipers. Nearby
lake we saw 4 white fronted geese, 26 black
brant and about 30 pintails. Saw a bar-
tailed godwit about 4 mi. from the wagon.
Holmes took the specimen.
Found a pair of snow buntings nesting
in the air went to the wagon. A sliding
door from the incisile makes it possible to look
right into the nest.
Saw ±6 pomarine jaegers, a snow goose,
2 Canada geese while on Holmes' census plot.
