Journal John O. Sellewin 1962 Barrow, Alaska 8 gum (cont.) 1330 Mullen, Steven, and I toured trap lines V+VI, I+II, and IX and X. Carcasses of lemmings had been put out by the staker just before the heavy snows began last fall. (Chamberlain put them out). Mullen wanted to find out if predators could locate and would eat the carcasses. Lines I+II had no carcasses placed by them - control check on fear of predators. Steven found a fox nest with some brown paper bag in it, 12's pace from line VI. The lemming had been frozen (inside paper bags) before being placed by the lines. Thus some paper stuck to the animals - weather improved this afternoon. Occasional sunshine came through. A young husky came running Toward us (from the direction of the recents tice) while we were on gas line ridge - at lines I+II. It was a 03 about 1 yr. old - and friendly. He spent a lot of time chasing long evers and hunting while we checked the lines. The question is: what would this dog (or others) do to lemmings in traps. 1630. Brewer had a meeting for all
