Sullivan, J. Barrow, Alaska Journal July 3 (cont.) Put up a western, r-b juvenile, and a semipale s. this afternoon. Also helped Holmen on his insect survey work. The tray lines IIIA, IIIB and IVA, IVB are to come in tonight after supper. Cold, rain and driving wind after evening meal - decided to deck lines only and to bring them in in the morning. August 1 Chambelain and I brought in line IIIA+B, IVA+B, XI and XII this morning. Weather: cold, windy and occasional rain. After lunch sorted insects in pool samples for Holmen. Put up drills. August 2 Took canoe walk along gas line this morning. Weather turned clear and sunny. Very little activity on the tundra: 9 longspurs, 2 RT loons, 1 glaciar gull. Pitelka left just before noon today. Put up birds after lunch. The sun went down for the first time this summer tonight. August 3 Assembled material for a plant press today. Blotters and corrugated cardboard were obtained from warehouse 38. Karl Stone went along - the materials are kept locked. Some blotting paper is also kept in the paper room. Made makeshift ends for the press by sawing a piece of plywood to size. Straps were also obtained. After lunch Schulte and I went out with
