At base is thin coarsely calte layer resting uncint on surface of unit above chicfly a frizble sand with some clay and isollet scattered granules. Large polished pebbles found both at base and isolated in clzey sand above, Locally lower part this intercal has chert conc. or cemented cal. layer Some geonics in float from upper part this 8,0 zone. 2,3 Claystone, dark gray sandy with some irreg interbedded sand at base, hard. 1,0+ Claystone, dk gray, hard finely silty (bottom of Sample 3) 4,0 Siltstone, argillaceous massive weathers light gray, grades down thru silty clsta to interval above. Hard, with scattered chert granules & some crb. frags. (Top of Sample 3 is 6251 foot) 66
