May 31 - 1898. Worked at Elgin, putting in the finishing touches. June 1 - 1898 Spent this day with Miss Schultz in the Exposition. On returning to the train at 11:30 p.m., my $2500.00 check was stolen. Walked to Ellis and an unidentified check for $500.00. Wrote to the Police and telegraphed San Francisco to stop payment. June 2 - 1898 Got a letter from home about my check. They said it did not seem to care for the information given me, ticket to St. Louis with etc. we are.
