June 5 - 1898 With my R.A. Blair started by a place three miles north-west of Clayton or sixteen miles n.-e of Ledyard to collect Chstean fossils. At this place is a large quarry exposing the entire Chsteans and all of the Devonians, A little n.-e of the quarry in the gravel road cut is exposed the top of the (C? Tauton) all of the Devonians and some of the Chsteans. Here we collected a few fossils chiefly crinoids. These are from the base of the Chsteage from the (non?) to 7 feet. The other fossils are from Sweeny's quarry and are from layers from about 10 two to 40 feet above the Devonians. The majority having are from about 20 feet above the
