July 25 - Tuesday. Camp III.
Resumed work this morning on the same
beds of slate yesterday.
In the face of the creek bluff (locality 1) I
noticed Baculites.
Locality 2 is at the base of the most promi-
ent sandstone ridge and contains oysters, large
Inoceramus, Clypeaster? (now in Lafayette Coll,
pa. Prof Reed). Many speci do not appear to be
present. Have three specimens.
Locality 3 contains a number of small speci.
I have specimens.
Loc. 4 we named the gastropod lagen
although other horzons have numerous gastropods.
I have specimens. I have included a number of lagen in a
Loc. 5. Ammonites lagen. This horizon is very
polifide in fossils and has not only Hamites, Doli-
ceras, Baculites but also Placenticeras, Pygohceras
and another genus of Ammonite. Five large gastro-
pods occur here. Prof. Bartow had the luck
to find the finest nodules and secured a
large collection. Ammonites occur & occur
in other widely separated zones but this is the
