The Fox Hills. July 22 Saturday. Camp II. Got out at 5 and have breakfast at 6. Started away from Alkali Camp at 8. Drove 3 miles on the way and arrived at Copper Creek Camp at noon. Distance good about 10 miles from here to 8. All the hills in this region are of Fox Hills formation which have been flaked down and covered with a layer of granite and quartz boulders of considerable size. On the Fox Hills near down the boulder layer come all the slopes. At first I thought the boulders had been deprised with the Fox Hills sandstone but further observation and consideration did not uphold this. Today and also yesterday we saw two lakes (St James) which appear to be sinks Col Knight says that the St. James lake is a good camping spot, but hides the area.
