Bay. 5/14/95/A; float in Decorah Sh 2. 2 B+ W photos in X on Sside of Hwy44 2 B+W photos #19+20 in X on Nside of Hwy 44 (9B) X E side of Hwy 44 (tailings) Screy slope shows numerous brachiopods - a shell hash in calcarenite. Fine calcitute below calcarenite. 3"-4" diam orthocerid molluscs; trilobites (9C) X N. side Hwy 44 late ledges (V. thin) 2'-3'- not V. peristent from lower 1/3 to bottom of upper 1/3 of Decorah Shale. V. dark grey to brownish black band 1 ft plus thick of shale with shell hash here & there at top of it. Pyrite. & Shell hash of brachiopods. This suggests a sudden deepening event creating anoxic shale environment.
