Saturday 5/13/95 "Sugar Creek Section"
left Rochester, south on ll.s 52 through
Chaffield to Fountain. Turned west on
County Road 8; about 1 mile west a
large working X - excellent exposures
Continued on road ca 1/2 miles from
turn off. (5A) Road cut at top of hill (west side)
has green Decorah Shale
overlain by platy late s.lvs. of
Cummingville Fm. Road cut is grass
covered & small trees are growing.
Decorah shale passes through 3 or more (?) ft ledges
before reaching Plattville - Plattville is poorly exposed
but I saw at least 15' of it in stream gully.
(Note - I made 2 collections from
this area on 7/16/62 (Ethun G.) See 2 pages
typed of strat. section from Sloan &
Weiss (1956, GSA Field Guidebook, Oct.30,1956,
