6/29/98 Rifle Hill X. Patterson Construct
Red locality (6) in 1995 field co.
notebook. We drove from Deerah
on US 52, turned off at Harmony MN.
taking CO 139 & MN 44 (dirt road)
(Closed repair?)
However, after several miles MN 44
was closed & we had to take
MN 17 and twisted around on roads
until an automotive repair works
(out among the farms) made a
(Via Preston)
diagram for us to get to Cherry Grove.
As we approached (still some mile out)
Cherry Grove
we came down a long hill
with good rock exposures at
bottom of hill across creek we
arrived at Rifle Hill X
Nothing at top of X in small area
that has a separate entry.
bottom
4 photos. 3 in main X & 1 in top
of X
from loose Notes: 1) lots of fine-scale soft sedt
deformation in calc. mudstones
2) lot of chest w. structures in chest
& these suggest that silicification
preceded final compaction of mudstone.
