Road cuts Iowa Hwy. 9, 7 miles SE of Decorah, Iowa, SW 1/4, SW 1/4 Sec. 14 + NW 1/4 NW 1/4 Sec. 9 T9N, R 7W. 3 BY W photos T because I can't come out 3 CS photos 13 loc. 9, 18+W photos; 1 C.S. photo. Packages of rocks become thinner + less blocky; also more shale coming in at upper soft. See Leverson + Gerh (1972 Iowa Acad. Sci, Fig. 2) - we agree with graphic sect. for Dubuque here (at loc. 10). We 1st visited this locality then loc. 9. Leverson, GerB + Broadhead loc. 10. > gate was locked, but CR walking down road to [illegible] X 3 1/2 miles S+ 5/4 mile E of Decorah. Single lane bridge crosses stream N on S side of road + east side of creeks). 12" shaly bed is well seen at both 9+10 and [illegible] to 12' below Dubuque-Magnolia contact. (See L, G, + B, 1979) Both locs 9 + 10 are comparable in what they show. We don't think Dubuque Fm is as thick as 3 1/4 ft., but only ca 20ft. - but exposures are limited (also L, G, + B, 1979 use a "marker" bed which is usually lower than change into the LS/sh pattern typical of the Dubuque.) < this is why I locked thinner
