Fine calcilutite below calcarenite. 3"-4" diam orthocerid mollusc; trilobites (9C) X N side Hwy 44 late ledges (v. thin) 2"-3" - not v. persistent from lower ? to bottom of upper ? of Decorah Shale. v. dark grey to brownish black band if plus thick of shale with shell hash here & there at top of it. Pyrite. Shell hash of brachiopods? This suggests a sudden deepening event creating anoxic shale environment. [illegible]
