Remsen, J.V. 1972 Journal Lemmings: 4 JBP site | Predators: Pomarines harassing Snowy Owl and Glaucous Gull. Dave Norton reported a Pomarine eating Pintail eggs. 1 darn Parasitic at S. Meadow Lane 6 Snowy Owls within 1/2 mile of each other along northern end of Gasline Ridge Longspurs: Opened JBP trap grid at 0830, Checked at 1100, 1330, 1630, 2030, and 2230. 4 new traps placed out today; these 4 plus the 2 I placed out last time accounted for 100% of the longspur catch - mostly new males but some good recaptures for males from known nests far away from these nests. Changed films at 2330-2400. Shorebirds: Flocks of 20 and 8 Pectoral Sandpipers (non-breeders) seen, 5 Pectorals chasing 1 female. Pectoral chased Dunlin for 2 seconds N/1, N/2 3 Red Phalarope nests found: 2 on JBP site, one in Voth Slough (N/4) 4 Buff-breasted Sandpipers on JBP site 1 were not doing any displaying, probably because of the bad weather. 3 were on the west side of site 1 and one was east of the cane-eater. 3 Long-billed Dowitchers flew over site 1, Culey Sandpiper nest camera film changed 2330. Migration: Flock of 100 dych (sp) → E. 6 Arctic Terns → E along coast. 1 & Red-breasted Merganser flushed from Family Lagoon.
