First group of Dunlin seen : 6 in Voth Slough, But other
Dunlin still seen displaying. Most shorebirds at present
seemed to be clumped into nursery-aggregations of
attending-young adults; it is unlikely that this clumping is
due to a clumped food supply; more likely it aids in
mutual defense, especially with a couple of Turnstones
at the nucleus. One such nursery in Voth Slough
contained 2 turnstones, 3♀ Curlew Sandpipers, 2
Baird's, 6 Dunlin, 3 Pectorals, 4 Semipalmateds, and
10 Red Phalaropes.
Migration: 1 Arctic and 2 Red-throated Loons overhead.
