Remsen, J.V. 1972 Journal Buff-breasted Sandpiper 1- high polygons near Footprint Lake Red Phalarope 30- caught and banded 4 chicks Pomarine Jaeger 10 Parasitic Jaeger 10 Long-tailed Jaeger 300 Glaucous Gull 8 Snowy Owl 4 Lapland Longspur 40 Snow Bunting 15 Lemmings: 4 Site 1 Predators: One incredible flock of 250 Long-tailed Jaegers SW of Footprint Lake; another flock of 45 on Village Ridge, which had 10 Parasitics among them. Longspurs: Opened IBP traps 0830 and closed them at 2100. 27 captures, including 1 juvenile. Shorebirds: New wave of Pectorals and Golden Plovers; Jeff Myll also recorded very similar #s of both on IBP Bird Transect - perhaps same groups of birds; especially since he also saw a Buff-breasted. 2 Dunlins heard still displaying. Caught and banded 4 Red Phalarope young at Footprint Lake: 7.0, 5.9, 5.5, 5.5 g. Red Phalarope nest found on 9 July near Trapline IV-A was empty; that one also found near there on 10 July still had 4 eggs. Migration: 2 Arctic Loons overhead. Flocks of 250, 45 Long-tailed Jaegers. 1 Buff-breasted Sandpiper, 70 Golden Plovers, 60 Pectoral Sandpipers in wandering group.
