Cartena, 27 grew in
a little patch of earth
an eighteen inches
perhaps a foot high to
4 ft. across.
About 9 miles out
no horse went lame
the road was ex-
ceding rough, so and
I had walked it but
we concluded to come
the lean and quick
to the end of the road.
It ended as the lower
glades, desolate grass plains
all lime-rock overlaid
with mud, covered with
Saw and other swampy
grasses then pine woods,
also on the hard rock,
with many pockets
