Grounds at Ashland set with white maples, They are in the full autumn foliage, tho often th' leaves have fallen. All are yellow. Why do th' leaves of maple te? crop first, and bottom ones of whitewood, bassu- [illegible] ? Many white woods at Ashland are naked as a snaply, have one Terminal leaf to a branch. Some W. oakes have green leaves yet, Nearly all autumn foliage now is yellow, almost the only reds being oak, these scarce and not intense
