The river birch is found along streams but not common, Alfalfa appears to be a good crop here, cleared lands are not unlike San Joaquin valley, often level; occasionally used above as near foothills, then a white sand as on plains. The hills are deeply gullied as are those in California, there being no stone to break the water. The short-leaf pine, as seen so far is dammel- sized tree, but they increase rapidly as we go south.
