Baltimore. About here I saw the first clear minute southerly birds, 4 Bizzards sailing lazily about. The sand has now become grey & white, and it looks odd to see strawberry plants growing in it. Some patches of clay yet appear. I have seen a few patch-jules (?) but the short-leaf is in- creezing The surface here is a fine sediment, much as at the "neck" but where streams have cut down there are boulders, so I think the glaciers reached here in early times. It may be of course they were brought by ice.
