Black Hawk locality - Black Beach - they still find cycads now + then, most in place. We combed ridge from beach to "cycad valley" - lots of fossil wood but nothing else. Also looked in valley back of Blacks. Seems little chance of finding cycads in place - possible exception is cycad valley. But they are so rare it is not worth time. Did find ostracodal shale (Lzkota most likely) in beach patch at X N. of Black's Beach. From ubiquitous distrib. of fossil wood on ridge where ranchers sister says cycads found, both cycads + float wood prob. strat. above ostracodal sh. Sample very large ostracods in thin time from float - W-57-17
