Notes on Whitehorse Ridge localities
Ridge is a series of blocks. Some obvious slumps but at least one fault normal to ridge which is upthrown to E bringing Pierre almost to ridge crest along the whole E end. In this area (Loc's A, B, + C.) lower Trail City and contact with Elk Butte well exposed. Not as good as the Whitehorse road locality because fossils not as common in conc. layers beneath peanut brittle zone. A barren interval lies between peanut brittle cones and the upper Trail City fossiliferous zone. Latter not definitely found in place but fresh float on bluffs at B and C.
C = loc. 10
At end of ridge is small bluff[sppd] bc peanut brittle layer - contact here is obscure, one zone barren cones betw pb. + Elk Butte sh. no yellow zone
Next hill W has float of upper cone zones and, on W side small flat on pb zone. Third knob (Loc. D.) has zone red brown cones above contact fairly well exposed but too much slip for section. Coll. here seems in place.
