Aug. 11 white count way up; called Ted. Szudy operated on at about 11 PM. I drove Leo back to Lzuco Creek and came back by 10 and was at hospital till about 2am. Took room at Ranger Hotel, up at 5:45 and back to hospital. Szudy ok but heaving and very uncomfortable. Stayed till Doc. came at 10.00. He said I might as well go for day, so arranged contacts to call me in emergency and went back to Lzuco Creek. Met Leo with Allen Agnew, Cox & Pettyjohn at West Lzuco Creek for lunch at 12:30. 'Leo had shown them 103 and 104 in morning as per our plans. Went to 101 in afternoon then back to L.C. for a beer. Just as they were leaving Bill Curry drove up and stuck around till 5:30. Leo and I had dinner and I went back to Lusk; Szudy obviously better but still throwing up, had intravenous H2O - which he didn't mind. Left about 9:30 went to Ranger for night. Received $20 personal check from Betty Gregory today - see back of book for tally on same.
