Locality 104 (end) Schoolhouse draw and adjacent areas to N-E.
NE cor. sec. 19, NW¼ sec. 20 and SW¼ and S½ NW¼ and SW¼
NE¼ sec. 17, T. 37 N, R. 62 W.
Three principal concretion horizons are
exposed in the massive unit in this area.
At top (#1) is the layer with phosphatic nodule
zone (collected), layer 2 about 20' below, and
lower layer with thick gray to reddish jackets
(#3, collected)
Layer 3 contains varied fauna including
I. fibrosus, P. subquadrata, Sphenos, P. nebrascense
Sphaerioda, Veniella, var of Discos. and bryozoans
thruout. One conc. with small Becculites found.
Most accumulations are bryozoa masses but
ones with best communities have only scattered
spec. Wood very common, one bone plate
6" sutured on rectangular pattern.
Abundant fish scales & vertebrae locally
Note. Section # 1 W of 1938 Luce Creek notes was
apparently taken in this area. Should check
out section and collections.
Note on 100-104. Colgate-banded unit relationships
Colgate prominent in 3 benches at 100+ 101, no evidence of it
at 102 where flat top of S. Ant Hills sits on banded unit.
At 104 nearly 100' banded unit above massive with no
sign of Colgate. Suggests Colgate & banded are later or
facies - at least in part.
FIND OUT-1. Relative position Colgate above massive unit at
all localities
2. Whether phosphatic nodule layer present only
where Colgate absent.
3. Rel. nature Colgate-banded unit faunas.
