Locality 101 Exposures in draws tributary to Crazy
Woman Creek (draws called N. Prong Crazy Woman on
county highway map) in NE 1/4, sec. 21, and SE 1/4
sec. 16, T. 36 N., R. 64 W.
Good exposures of Verniella zone in at least large
part of massive unit, and complete section well
up into lower Lance... Massive does not seem
to be fossiliferous as further east. Need to check
outcrop for phosphatic nodule horizon.
Need section of Colgate here - it has local
fossiliferous lens, as does lower Lance. See
sketch opposite p.40 for generalized section.
Locality 100 Walker Ranch, draw to NE ranch and bluffs
trending NE along W side Crazy Woman Creek in
E 1/2 sec. 14 and adjacent NW 1/4 sec 13, T. 36 N., R. 64 W.
In 1938 notes and AB thesis section #2W (windmill
quarry) was measured in Walkers draw and parts
of adjacent bluffs. The locality is exceptional
for detail of bedding structures though the
massive unit not as fossiliferous as along
US 85.
Re-examination reveals phosphatic nodule layer
at top of massive unit (H of 1938 section)
though here it is not marked by a
prominent concretion layer. Instead phos.
steinkeus + "turds" live in upper foot +/-
of sand or on its surface. Some local
conc, masses of shells - chiefly Verniella,
cyprinerius-like elem + Spherioida. Base of
bed of banded beds above this commonly an
intraformational cgl of clay shards in sand
+ some reworked phos. nodules.
