Fossils: - To date bone fragments from colored beds not diagnostic. Corbiculaz and lezves local at coal bed horizon according to Pettyjohn. One channel above the coal with 4-4 bed Corbiculaz - about 4' above coal - looks like Corbiculaz in coal horizon + just above it. No woody material in this channel. (SW¼ SE¼ Sec 36 9N 12E) - (White River beds - on weathered zone on) colored beds. CREIGHTON AREA trip with Pettyjohn. Step 1. Succession in gulley includes banded bed fecies at base, including some marine fossils (Sample 1) in concretions grading upward into colored shules with I.b. grzywaches carrying Helymenites. This evidence solves problem of position of the colored beds of Stoueville area - they are a fecies of the sandstones above the coal and are definitely Fox Hills, Suggested to Pettyjohn that I favor division of upper and lower Fox Hills with coal sequence to be included at top of basal unit. The upper F.H. would have 2 fecies, the Sandstone and the colored shule which could best be distinguished informally for mapping + discussion. In areas where C 0490* * [see doc.734] ? not necessarily SS would not 2 foot much weathering 37
