RED SCAFFOLD AREA RECCO.
(1) Ranch in center N½, sec. 34 T. 11 N., R. 18 E.,
Ziebach Co. I
Hill between stockdem west of Ranch and
Ranch house has few Timber Lake concs with
P. linguiformis fauna. At Stockdem "barron" concs
above bentonite had part of a D. nebrascensis.
General section is obscure, but seems to
be silty shale some Sud streaks, with light
grey, with at least 1. bentonite near lower
part; those beds contain brown weather concs,
some with yellow cclc., chiefly barron.
Above or at top are a few with T.I.
fauna, below dk pierre-hke shale with
rb + light weather barron cclc.? concs. (Latter
exp. in Red Scaffold Cr. at crossing in sec. 5,
T. 10 N., R. 18 E.)
Apparently divides in much of headwater areas
of Beaver and Red Scaffold Creeks are underlain by
Timber Lake equivalent. Numerous concs locally but
ones in Sec. 33, T. 11 N., R. 18 E. are ones we got
westernmost fauna from. Deserves further tracing
westward.
