upper half they are few 11) 5.9 chiefly vfq sznd, with much ob stein and interbeds of db grey fossil shale. In upper 2.0 crudely grey-white wartz ss snd conc messes. snd in interval vfq + silty, (simple with lignitic layers from top this unit) Lignitic zone at top seems fairly persistent here. Interbedded clay shale + silty sznd - a good brazed-bed unit, with interval 5.0 to 9.0 with silt-sznd beds up to 0.7 snd below thinner + shale predom. From 9.0-14.0 shale with sczt thin silts, then about 3.5 with numerous silt, and romzndor chiefly shale. A few sczt comes in lower thick silt zone (total thsly this unit) 12) 20.5 13) 9.0-? Gross Roots Sznd, vfq wartzus grey, loc with OB stein snd numerous OB chips. Crossbedded + leathery with some c clay stringers + scattered fossils. Concan, of fossils in channel base 5.0 from base. Preservation poor, some oysters - whole & clouded. To north along outcrop unit (12) changes, the silt-sznd layers thicken at expense of shales & it becomes difficult to separate thus from overlying unit though it is still shaliier. Here too the silt-sznd bed are dominantly sznd snd wartzier, or tend to, fluted. Even OB chips work down from above, snd unit (13) difficult to separate from (12). 31
