July 31 trip with Wzyur Pettyjohn - chiefly in area cornered by Opal, Red Owl, Advance + Marcus. See County road map for locations (1) Bluff overlooking valley of Sulphur Cr. from N. on road S from Opal. E side Concretionary ledges in x lem SS overlain by soft yellowbwn wath sand with dinosaur bones locally. Hard ledges have rare internal molds clams and fairly common Helymenites. Beneath sand with conc ledges is 4'-5' sand same lb sh. then scat yel. bwn worth cones, lower pt. concreted sand upper ls. - much plant wash. Below this layer- interbedded sand +sh, fairly thin beds, auth wails with sk & reptile teeth. Ledge is lowest visible in Sulphur Cr. valley and 1/2 shzle below prob. grades down into Piarra lith. - which can be seen in trib valley at (14) Have rather silty to sandy clay has some redworth sandy ls. cones. (2) Great mass of rather spectacular cross bedding chiefly in fq.ss some shale + liq layers. Conc. ledges at many different levels in this unit which seems to border valley as far cast as rd S Opal. Festoon type x bedding of many small intersecting crystals + 2 few big ones. (3) Valley of Beaver Cr. where crossed by county road thru middle T.10 N. R.14 E. Have 2 time section possible from dk grzy sh with jarosite buds + concs sandls up thru 20-30 ft lb sh + sand with scat. flat lended bed type cones to sand with some sandy lime conc layer, one of which at least - a yellow worth flat conc bed with "wormy" surface, has local fossils. Possibly the TL fauna (Pettyjohn hits) 60.
