Loc. 59 Oliver Jewett river 1zud @ zst of Rt. 65. Bluffs along field road in W½, SW¼, NE¼, sec. 1, T. 14 N., R. 21 E., Lantry NW. quad. Ziebach Co. These bluffs have slumped somewhat, possibly 20 feet or more relative to conc. zones in larger exposure in bluffst center NE¼, sec. 1. Latter = more complete exposure. Section 1. Southernmost of two in easternmost gulley draining SW on to lower terrrce. Measuring up in gulley from base dug trench. ① 5.5 Shzle, grzy, finely silty, a few thin bzuds silt 1.6 above base. Becomes brownish stained above silt bzuds, is darker gray below. ② 2.3 Shale with interbeds silt up to one inch thick. Sharp contact with ① below. At top is 0.1 of bentonite - top shale bentonitic with local masses cone-in-cone “A” bentonite ③ 7.8 Shzle with silt layers + laminae rs in ② At top gray scat, purple- red weath. cones lte brn gray on 8
