Possibility, that chemical conditions restricted fauna in basin area. du Pierre at Locality #5 much gyp + selenite locally, also. Basis for separating Elk Butte & Virgin Creek members obscure. Bentonite common in Pierre in this locality & also throught 'basin' area. chem. analysis of F.H. sediments in Basin area should show unusual condition if amount of selenite, gyp. & unknown impurities is a criteria.
