At the low estimate of 2 1/2 miles an hour we must have covered 20 miles, although the land behind us looks very near. Every time seems out of place according to Sverdrup's map. I have taken bearings of land seen and will take more in the morning. Working in a cold wind at 28 below zero isn't a bit comfortable, especially when one has wet undercloths, wet feet, and wet mittens. I have tried to make my camikles (boots) go as long as possible without change. I have worn my third pair in 22 days which even surprised the Eskimos. E-book - tells me that when with Dr. Cook they passed two islands to the north of us not on the map. One is rather large and one
