itself from a crumbled base of sandstones, like the boldly-carved rampart of an ancient city: at its- northern extremity,- on the trunk of a deep ravine which has worn its- way among the ruins, there stands a solitary column or minaret- tower , as sharply finished as if it had been cast for the Place Vendome . Yet the length of the shaft alone is 480 feet ; and it rises on a gentle or Federal 280 feet high. Mary Winston River is near Cape William Word. Worlton left the brig on June 4th. Reached the Glacier on June 15th and Cape Andrew Jackson on the 21st Dr. Kane calls it 49 miles from Elak to Awatalo. From Awatalo to brig 42 miles- total 91 miles.
