TRANSect 10, Barrow Alaska
22 June
1130 - just as I finished #10 (see journal) I heard a [illegible] knot
whistling overhead; looking up - it was obvious, chasing another
knot off to the east. Call a high whistle as it chased [illegible]
who well on where ~~~
~~~~ 4 whistles / 5 sec
1145 walking to sw from end of #10 began hearing knot again. Bare about
whistle, but more common was a derivative two-note version of the
classic calidridine frog call. Much more whistle-y quality however than
any other calidrine
~~~~~~~ every 6/5 seconds
this is given on wing as the bird flutters and glides very high in
the area - ~100-200ft up. It called during both flutter
and glide phases. Went into the display from the ground taking a long
sweeping flight up, covering ~200-300 m between take off
and beginning to display
