JP Myers 1976 Calidris canutus TRANSect 10, Barrow Alaska 22 June 1130 - just as I finished #10 (see journal) I heard a [illegible] knot whistling overhead; looking up - it was obvious, chasing another knot off to the east. Call a high whistle as it chased [illegible] who well on where ~~~ ~~~~ 4 whistles / 5 sec 1145 walking to sw from end of #10 began hearing knot again. Bare about whistle, but more common was a derivative two-note version of the classic calidridine frog call. Much more whistle-y quality however than any other calidrine ~~~~~~~ every 6/5 seconds this is given on wing as the bird flutters and glides very high in the area - ~100-200ft up. It called during both flutter and glide phases. Went into the display from the ground taking a long sweeping flight up, covering ~200-300 m between take off and beginning to display ... path of flight Ground 200-300 m
