lead which is only 50 yds
wide. It is freezing over and
should be all right - in the
morning. I have covered about-
12 miles today making a
total of 25 miles from land.
Sunday, April 19th
5 th - 40 th day
Crossed over on the thin ice
this morning at 10-30. Lead
widened during night but
froze over above the igloo.
at 12-30 encountered another
lead, at 2-45 another, at
3-30 and at 4. Ice buckled
under us at all, at last-
lead ice came together and
arose beneath our feet
with so loud a noise that
I could scarcely hear the
crunches - I was Edhuria's yelled
for Fitz - to hurry. As he came
along over crawling was
completely crumbled up to
creased in another place. Part-
two dug down in Fergus creek
but Edhurion filled them out.
18 below,
40 miles from land.
